I'm off tomorrow morning to visit North Carolina for a day. Joe Little invited me to speak at Agile Carolinas, a new user group that's starting up in the area.
I'm going to talk about Coaching Software Development Teams. It's a kind of an awkward topic for me. I've been doing coaching work for about seven years, but I find that it is difficult to talk about. I'm not content to talk about the "feel good" things that usually dominate discussions of people work. The fact is, you have to make hard choices when you choose to help people along the way toward new skills and better performance. You have to be there for them and for their employer. You have to behave ethically and pragmatically, in a way which recognizes and complements the surrounding culture.
Tough to do, tough to talk about, but fun nonetheless. If you're in the area, pass by.
yes. go and try it.
